Privacy

There are no accounts, no sign-in, no tracking pixels and no analytics of any kind. The site sets no cookies. Two values are stored in your browser’s local storage, both because you chose something, and neither ever leaves your device.

Nothing you type into the calculators is stored. The figures are computed from published tariff data, and the inputs live in the page’s address so a result can be shared — which also means they appear in the address bar, so treat a shared link as public.

Two keys in local storage, and nothing else:

• wattclear-theme — whether you chose the light or dark theme. Set only when you use the theme control.
• wattclear-privacy-choice — your advertising privacy choice, described below. Set only when you make one.

Both are local storage rather than cookies, which means they are never transmitted with a request. Clearing your browser’s site data removes them, and the site works without them.

No analytics service is installed — not Google Analytics, not a privacy-preserving alternative, not a self-hosted one. There is no advertising or measurement pixel. No profile of you is built, because there is nothing to build one from.

The site does not ask for your address, your utility account, or a copy of a bill. The bill analyser works from figures you type in, and those are never sent anywhere but the computation that answers you.

Like any website, the hosting provider records ordinary server logs — the requested URL, the time, an IP address and a user agent — as a normal part of serving a request. Those are the host’s records, retained under its own policy, and are not used here for any analytical purpose.

No advertising is running. No ad network is configured, public/ads.txt authorises no sellers, and no third-party ad script loads. The layout reserves space where advertising would go so that turning it on later does not shift the page, but those spaces are empty and send no request.

When advertising is switched on, the site will not load a network’s script until a privacy choice has been recorded. An unrecorded choice is treated as no consent — the strict reading, applied to everyone, rather than guessing your location from an IP address and deciding your rights from that guess.

The footer carries a control for opting out of the sale or sharing of personal information, in the sense several US state privacy laws use those words. Your choice is recorded on your device and signalled to any advertising code through the interfaces the industry reads.

Global Privacy Control is honoured. If your browser sends a GPC signal, it is treated as an opt-out without your having to set one here.

Because there are no accounts, there is no profile to request, correct or delete. A request to access or delete personal information would find nothing held, which is the point of collecting none.

The tariff, consumption and geographic data is public-record material from US federal sources, not from visitors. It concerns utilities and published rate filings rather than people. The methodology page names every source, its licence, and when it was retrieved.

This is a reference site about household electricity costs. It is not directed at children, and it knowingly collects nothing from anyone, of any age.

If this policy changes materially the date at the top changes with it. Past versions are in the repository’s history rather than being quietly overwritten.
